February 2015 - Mike Heylin Collects OBE

Lovely photo of Mke & his family collecting his OBE.  Mike has been a long time friend of WAC and it was he who first helped us out with teh loan of his coaching equipment so we could get our first ever coaching session off the ground.   We are  fortunate enough to work with Mike on his "Dacorum Angling Project", the programme, which was Mike's brainchild, has been running for numerous years and was credited as an example as to...

January 2015 - Iced over lake wont stop us catching!

Tough day at the office today! With the lake iced over we decided to take the risk of spooking out the swims by using the rowing boat to clear a fishable area. Our Key Stage 4 students had the hardest shift after this disturbance but managed to persuade a couple of tench and a bream to grace the bank. Swims had had time to settle for the arrival of Key Stage 3 in the afternoon, and whilst the fishing was...

January 2015 - New Key Sage 3 Group

Spent the afternoon with our new KS3 students, Jack, Anthony and Kain. Provisionally booked in for a two week trial we will be working with them to get their CAST starter award and take things from there. They were all off to a perfect start with the whip rods. Jack opened up the account with a small Roach and from then on the fish just kept getting bigger! All the boys caught including Tench, Bream, Perch to an impressive 2lbs...

January 2015 - First Session of the year with Key Stage 4

Good to have our KS4 students Callum & Harley back after the Christmas break. Bite wise it was a tough morning and we were gutted when Harley lost what was obviously a sizeable carp, but they kept going and were rewarded with a couple of Tench for Callum and Harley got his revenge by landing a Common Carp at the end of the session. Well done lads!

December 2014 - Last of the Coaches Road Trips for this year

Last week saw our last Coaches Road Trip of 2014, unfortunately we were light on the ground as Tony & Dave were unable to make it so it was just Pete & Myself that made the 90 minute drive to South Lincolnshire where we had heard of some good Pike and Perch were being landed in the run up to Christmas. There had been a hard frost the night before with ice in the margins and fully covering the...

December 2014 - Bonus Session!

Coaching Session called off...what are we to do with a bucket full of pellet and corn and a strong mild wind blowing on the water? Sneak in a bonus session for ourselves of course! December 2014 - Winter Break for Coaches

Well what with inset days and mock exams managed to get in a few sessions chasing predators. Best of all was getting a coaches trip down to Blenheim Palace, first time we had ever paid a visit. Freezing cold winds and drizzle still couldnt take the edge off this stunning venue. Fishing was hard going, not helped by our urge to keep moving around and getting to see and try as many areas as possible, but Pete managed to wangle...

November 2014 - The Carp Strike Back!

What a difference a week makes. Last week the lads on the float rods were struggling, but those with lures were catching, this week... 6 carp plus 3 tench on the float and not so much as a follow on the lures. Still it all balances out in the end.

November 2014 - New Term for Key Stage 4

Start of a new term and back on the banks with our KS4 students. They are now starting their level 2 course so plenty to cover with float, ledger and lure tactics all needing to be mastered. On such a crisp morning, we knew the fishing could be tough. Comisserations to Callum who lost one of the lakes largest carp on the float rod, he managed to play the fish for a good 20 minutes before the 4lb line...

October 2014 - Final Session of the Herts CSP Sportivate Course at Watford

Congratulations to all the boys who received the Level 1 Cast Certificates and their fishing kits. We rounded off the course with a 1 hour competition, sadly Bailey was unable to make it today but with 4 competing we knew it would be good. These boys should be very proud of themselves, the lowest recorded weight was 7lb 80z with James being the overall winner with a mixed catch of bream and tench amounting to a fantastic 24lb 12...
