May 2017 - Rickmansworth Canal Festival

20th & 21st May saw us helping out for the launch of the Canal & River Trust Angling Go Fish campaign for 2017. Event was at Sabey's Pool and was part of the programme for the Rickmansworth Canal Festival, joining the Watford Angling Coaches Team of Paul Forman, Tony Forman and David Brown was fellow Professional Anglers Association, Roger Smith as well as Dick Pilkinton and his team from Tring Anglers. The Saturday started off well with good catches of quality Roach together with small chub and Perch, but it wasn't long before the heavens opened and we all had to take cover. This certainly hit the numbers for the day and even though the sky's cleared for the afternoon we were certainly short of customers! That said those who did come along had a much longer time to fish, we were Joined by Shannon who was catching well on the whip, but given that there was so few people we decided to get a bonus carp rod out for her which was placed on a small hard patch just beside a lily bed on the opposite bank. 4pm was rapidly approaching, but just in time the carp rod sprang into life and Shannon was soon battling a landing a lovely Mirror Carp. That evening we stayed over and after stuffing ourselves with a huge barbeque offering from Dick Pilkinton we soon set up camp and got the carp rods out for the night. A busy night it proved to be with 10 Carp landed in the end up to 20lb plus. It wasn't a case of being up bright and early the next day, the Carp action simply meant we were up anyway! But straight from the get go it was clear that Sunday was going to bring some corking weather. Over 50 people attended and whilst the fish were not always present there were plenty to be had, a similar stamp of Roach to the previous day, along with a few larger Perch and a decent Bream. Thanks to everyone involved, and for those who attended we hope you enjoyed yourselves don't forget if you want to try fishing or attend another Fishing Taster session there is plenty going on this year with National Fishing Month.
