Street Lurz is a 12-hour programme designed to teach new anglers the skills of drop shotting and jig fishing. The coaching team from Watford Angling Coaches, all of whom are licensed with the Angling Trust, will be teaching the participants the skills they need to go ‘Street Fishing’ whilst undertaking the nationally-recognised Level 1 CAST skills award. The course will take place on the Grand Union Canal, situated next to Boxmoor & District Angling Society’s Westbrook Mere Lake at Bourne End, near Hemel Hempstead, between 10am to 3pm on Saturday 26th March and 2nd April. All equipment is supplied. The cost is £30 per participant for the two-day course, and each participant will receive a free £20 online tackle voucher from Angling Direct. The Street Lurz programme will help young people develop their skills, capacities and capabilities, thereby supporting their participation in society as mature and responsible individuals. Through learning to ‘Street Fish’, participants will engage with education in a safe environment, within an inclusive recreational activity where they understand the importance of water safety and respect for the environment in which they fish. They will receive the encouragement and support to continue with angling as a fascinating, life-long leisure activity. Paul Forman, founder of Watford Angling Coaches, said: ‘This course has been designed specifically by drop shotting experts and angling coach educators to attract youngsters with the message that fishing can be both accessible and on trend. Our thanks go to Angling Direct for its fantastic support in providing the sets of fishing kit and the vouchers. Once we have completed the pilot scheme, we intend to roll out this exciting new concept across the country at simple-to-access canals and rivers in urban areas.’ Anyone interested in booking a place on the course in Hertfordshire or enquiring how the Street Lurz programme can be run in their area should email Paul@WatfordAnglingCoaches.co.uk as soon as possible. Darren Bailey MD of Angling Direct added: ‘We were delighted to be approached by the Street Lurz team and asked to support this new initiative. This is exactly the type of programme that will get kids fishing, and Angling Direct will be supporting the development of the scheme countrywide in the future.’
